Simona Scarpaleggia is the CEO of IKEA Switzerland where she oversees strategy and operations of the retail business including nine stores, e-commerce and distributions with a total yearly turnover of EUR 1 billion.

Before joining IKEA Switzerland, she has held various positions in IKEA Italy and other multinational companies as senior executive or HR Director.

She is a passionate campaigner for all issues surrounding women’s empowerment. In 2009, she co-founded «Valore D» in Italy and later «Advance - Women in Swiss Business» in Switzerland. Both organization have a mission to boost gender diversity and to increase the share of mixed-gender management teams for the benefit of our economies.


Since January 2016, Scarpaleggia is co-chairing the UN High Level Panel on Women ́s Economic Empowerment. She holds a degree in political science and an MBA from SDA Bocconi School of Management. Simona Scarpaleggia is an Italian citizen, is married and has three children.

In other words, she makes sure that the definition of pursuing good business and value creation for stakeholders is not only limited to economic profitability. Instead, it also expands to being conscious of and addressing the impact chocolate and cocoa  has on the environment and empowering the cocoa farmers (the social actors) in the supply chain to make a better living from their craft. In an industry where poverty is prevalent, she is personally inspired by the role that women play in lifting cocoa economies. They channel their financial success instantaneously to the education and wellbeing of their children and the entire society benefits!

She has been a One Young World Ambassador since 2017. To fufil this role, she voluntarily organises events and initiatives to raise awareness on Sustainable Living amongst her colleagues. Anne-Flore is probably the most complete and radical snowboarder who has ever existed. A rider who is capable of everything, to win every kind of event and to ride down the most difficult lines. She is a freeride world champion and has also become a strong advocate for gender equality in snowboarding.

After her victory at Verbier Xtrem in 2017, she decided to invest her energy into positive project towards women which lead to the birth of a short movie titled "A land shaped by women".

The film is empowering women and bringing a feminine narrative to the outdoor practice and it encourages all of us to be part of creating the world that will make sense and bring gender equality in the front of the debate.
